Sturgis City Manager withdraws candidacy for Portage City manager position

Sturgis City Manager Mike Hughes said he has withdrawn his candidacy for the position of city manager of Portage.
The 40-year-old Hughes was one of three finalists chosen last month from a pool of five candidates for the Portage job. After further consideration, Hughes said he and his family have decided they would prefer to stay in Sturgis.
Hughes, who has served as Sturgis city manager since July 2005, was a finalist along with Paul Brake, city manager in Grand Blanc, and Laurence Shaffer, acting city manager in Portage, for second interviews in early October.
Hughes’ current salary is $105,000. His wife, Connie, is a teacher with Sturgis Public Schools.
