John R. Ware, age 97, of Burr Oak, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at the Sturgis Hospital emergency room.
John was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Athens, a son of the late Ernest and Regina (Baumeister) Ware.
John had attended grade school at Worden School in Burr Oak and later graduated from Colon High School with the class of 1934.
On Aug. 23, 1947, he married Jane B. Bedient in Burr Oak. She preceded him in death May 23, 1992.
John had lived most of his life in Burr Oak, where he had farmed, ran a small sawmill, had bought and sold timber, made and sold lumber and also had made and sold maple syrup, and was a good woodworker.
He is survived by three sons, David M. Ware of Burr Oak, James L. (Kathryn) Ware of Sturgis and Raymond A. (Rebecca) Ware of Burr Oak; eight grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Leslie Ware.
The family will receive relatives and friends 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. Funeral services celebrating the life of John R. Ware are at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, with Pastor Kurt Kuhlmann officiating. Burial will follow at Burr Oak Township Cemetery.
If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of John to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church orWorden School Restoration Project. Envelopes are available at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon and at the church on the day of the service.
