Man charged with murder following fire

Police have arrested a Battle Creek man in connection with a fatal stabbing and apartment fire in Kalamazoo over the weekend. The 35-year-old suspect was to be arraigned on charges of open murder and arson Tuesday. Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers were called to the Clayborne Court Apartment complex Saturday night. The fire was in a bedroom and fire crews were able to put it out before it could cause damage to other apartment units. After the fire was put out, crews found the body of 47-year-old Marie McMillan on the bed. McMillan was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers have not announced an exact cause of death as they wait for the results of an autopsy.  (MRN)
