Mildred Abbott, 101

Mildred Adel Abbott, age 101, of Marcellus, departed this life at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Three Rivers on Thursday, November 13, 2014. She was born February 12, 1913 at the Wright home on Steininger Road, Marcellus Township, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Adel (Ayers) Wright. She was the youngest of five children.
Mildred has lived in the Marcellus area most of her life and graduated with the Class of 1931 from Marcellus High School, which she was the last living member. She lived in Lawton for four years from 1942 to 1946, and moved back to Marcellus.
Mrs. Abbott was a charter member of the TOPS Club in Marcellus and also was in the Mothers’ Clubs in Marcellus and Lawton. She was a member of the Marcellus AARP and treasured the time spend with friends and family.
The people and family members of Marcellus and surrounding area will remember Mildred as the Rose Lady. She was always sharing her roses with her family and friends.
Mildred and Hazen were married August 17, 1935. They were married 71 years when Hazen died on November 21, 2006.
She is survived by her son, Carroll and Nancy Abbott of Lansing; daughter, Joyce and Al DeRuiter of Marcellus; one granddaughter, Lori and David Bauer of Lewisville, Texas; one grandson, David and Brandi DeRuiter of Panama City Beach, Florida; one great-grandson, Pearson DeRuiter and one great-granddaughter, Kira Love of Panama City Beach, Florida.
Besides her husband Hazen, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Grace Hering and Ethel Hunt; two brothers, Lyle and Albert Wright.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 2 P.M. at the Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, 52780 M-40, Marcellus, Michigan.
Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service.
Memorials may be directed to the Marcellus United Methodist Church or the Marcellus Ambulance Service.
