Robert McDonald, 87

Robert Douglas McDonald, 87, of Three Rivers, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Three Rivers on Nov. 12, 1926 the son of the late Joseph Leo and Florence (Edgerton) McDonald.

He joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during WWII. Bob farmed most of his life and also worked for the St. Joseph County Road Commission. He also served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Lockport, Fabius, and Park Fire Dept. He was a past Post Commander and member of the American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170. He enjoyed wood working and gardening in his spare time.

Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Jean in 2004, and son Thomas Leo in 1990. Two sisters, Marguerite Whitehead and Miriam Gregory. One brother, Paul McDonald.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, two children, John H. McDonald of Three Rivers and Patty (Ray) Chartrand of Fruitport; grandchildren, Sean (Stephanie), Adam (Sue), Jason (JoDonna) McDonald, Heather, Tonya, Michelle Chartrand, and many great-grandchildren; one brother, Hubert McDonald; two sisters, Marie Mann and Jean Shutes, as well as several nieces and nephews. Also his special friend Shirley Bowersox.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Hohner Funeral Home with Pastor John Hill officiating. Interment of Mr. McDonald’s cremains will take place at Riverside Cemetery immediately following the service with Military Honors under the auspices of the American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170.
