Sturgis bucket challenge hopes to raise money for United Way

The City of Sturgis Electric Department is challenging the Sturgis Fire Department to see which can raise the most money for the St. Joseph County United Way.
The bucket challenge starts at 9 a.m. Friday.
According to St. Joseph County United Way Director Kelly Hostetler, individuals are signed up to be in the bucket trucks high over the fire department from 15 to 30 minutes.
Those people will use that time to call acquaintances for donations to benefit their team. In a twist, however, Hostetler said pledges can be made to keep people in the bucket as long as an emergency need for their service does not arise.
The team that raises the most money will then have their truck washed by the other team.
