Donna Lou Batten, age 79, of Mendon, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014 at her home following a long illness. She was born in Evansville, IN on Dec. 10, 1934 the daughter of the late Herbert and Delcie (Crabtree) Betts, and was a graduate of Coldwater High School. She was married to Donald E. Tompkins, Jr. on Apr. 18, 1955 in Coldwater. They were later divorced. Donna was married to Shirley “Bill” Batten in Mendon on Dec. 7, 1973. Bill died on Nov. 9, 2011. Donna had worked at the Haas Corporation, was an avid reader, and a dispatcher for the Mendon Fire Department before the implementation of 911 service.
Donna is survived by four children, Norma Shannon (Steven) Stewart, Larry (Ramona) Tompkins, Randy (Patricia) Tompkins all of Mendon and Lisa (Herbert) Seeger of Wausau, WI; ten grandchildren, Billie, Michael, and Cassie Stewart, Corrina Tompkins, Jessen (Brooke) Tompkins, Petrea (Matt) Schumacher, Hannah Tompkins, Gabe Tompkins, Alex Seeger and Conner Seeger; three great-grandchildren, Sarah and Taylor Tompkins, and Randy Schumacher; a brother, Lowell Betts of Quincy. She was preceded in death by a brother, Doran Betts.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has been conducted. No services are planned at this time. It is suggested that memorials be directed to the Three Rivers Health Hospice, 222 S. Main, Three Rivers, MI 49093. Condolences may be left for the family at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
