John Garner, 70, of Portage, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014. He was born on March 6, 1944, the son of the late Victor and Nadine (Delling) Garner. John had a gentle heart and quiet nature. He was giving and always found a way to help others. He was quick witted, but never needed to be the center of attention. John loved sports and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed cars and traveling. On Dec. 12, 1964, he married the love of his life Kathy (Pick) Garner who survives. They celebrated 50 years of great life together. John was a hard worker who owned and operated Sweetwaters Donut Mill since 1983. When not working, he and Kathy enjoyed spending time at their home in Florida. Above all John loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He leaves them all too soon, but has filled their lives with wonderful moments and memories. He is also survived by his son, Greg (Tricia) Garner; daughter, Julie (Michael) Billings; grandchildren, Haley and Tregg Garner. He was also preceded in passing by his sister, Janice Wrobleski. In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
