Mendon raises sub pay

Mendon Community Schools has become the third district in the county to raise its full-day pay for substitute teachers.
Members of the district’s board of education Monday approved the full-day increase from $80 to $85. The move comes two weeks after Centreville Public Schools took an identical course of action, and more than a month after Three Rivers Community Schools also upped its full-day rate to $85.
Superintendent Rob Kuhlman said the $5 increase was seen as an appropriate way to entice subs and keep subs from cancelling. He conceded that Three Rivers increasing its full-day pay to $85 played a role in Centreville and Mendon taking the action their respective boards did.
In all cases, Three Rivers, Centreville and Mendon have kept the half-day sub rate at $45.
