MSU Extension active in St Joseph County

The MSU Extension Service has played an active role in St. Joseph County during 2014, according to an annual report presented earlier this month to the county commission.
Its role with children and youth included a “Grow Your Own Pig and Sell Your Pig” commodity carnival as a simulation of what it takes to raise a hog for market.
Other forms of MSU Extension’s involvement included its role in the MSU/Purdue Extension Joint Irrigation Educator position. Eighty-four educational meetings were conducted for Indiana and Michigan producers and irrigators.
It staged biweekly focus sessions on integrated pest management and continued cover-crop research and education programs.
Also, staff members Linda Kline and Diana Fair hosted Nutrition and Physical Activity programs. In addition, MSU Extension educated lakefront property owners, local government officials and waterfront contractors on the ecology, protection and management of inland lakes.
