October’s unemployment rate in St. Joseph County decreased by six-tenths of a percent compared to a month earlier.
The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed St. Joseph County’s 4.6 percent October unemployment rate was less than September’s 5.2 percent.
October’s unemployment rate was 2.6 percent less than the same month one year earlier, when the figure was 7.2 percent.
St. Joseph County remained below the state unemployment average, which was 6.4 percent for the month.
The agency said seasonal hiring in business services and the education field contributed to the decrease.
At 4.2 percent, Barry County had the region’s lowest unemployment rate in October, while Hillsdale County had the highest, at 6 percent.
