Saturday’s second annual Winter Adventure at Camp Fort Hill provided a break from the winter doldrums, as about 100 people participated in a variety of outdoor and back-to-nature activities.
Expanding on the inaugural event in 2014, the list of attractions included a hay ride, snow shoeing and a cross-buck-sawing competition. Organizers hoped to offer cross-country skiing, but the activity wound up a casualty as the result of not enough quality snow.
Dave Ludders, a camp Fort Hill official and key organizer of the event, said he is especially grateful to Lee’s Adventure Sports of Kalamazoo for providing staff to help with the snow shoes. He also acknowledged Boundary Waters, for offering grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato basil soup.
Ludders said there will be a third annual Winter Adventure, and work on next year’s event is already underway.
