Bell returned to schoolhouse

A piece of history has been returned to a historic schoolhouse now located in Burr Oak.
The bell to Worden School, a former one-room schoolhouse, had been missing since it was stolen in 1974.
Sturgis resident Sheldon Fieberkorn was instrumental in finding the bell and last month, it made its way back atop the school building.
Fieberkorn said the family in possession of the bell agreed to return it on the condition that they would remain anonymous. The bell had been kept inside a building through the years, Fieberkorn said.
The historic Worden School was moved from its location on Hackman Road to a new place near Burr Oak Community Schools last May.
