A pair of state legislators whose jurisdictions include St. Joseph County were sworn in during a ceremonial event Monday at the Centreville courthouse.
State Rep. Aaron Miller and State Sen John Proos took part in the fanfare before a group of about 100 people in the third-floor commissioners’ room. The oath was administered by county clerk Pattie Bender.
Miller, a 27-year-old Sherman Township resident, has replaced Matt Lori as 59th House District representative. Proos, meanwhile, begins a second four-year term but his first with St. Joseph County as part of his three-county district that stretches to Lake Michigan.
Proos, 45, replaces Bruce Caswell as St. Joseph County’s state senator.
The two take their official oath of office today in Lansing, where Miller will become the youngest member of the 110-person House.
