An Elkhart-based RV and trailer company has chosen a location in the village of White Pigeon to expand its manufacturing operations.
Forest River Manufacturing is launching new products and is expected to construct a three-building development to support its plans.
The expansion, announced Tuesday by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, is projected to produce almost 400 new jobs over a five-year period.
Groundbreaking should begin this spring on a parcel along the north side of U.S. 12, east of the Grand Elk Railroad tracks. Hiring is slated to start in the fall.
According to a MEDC media release, Forest River is a world leader in the recreational vehicle industry. The company produces travel trailers, fifth wheels, pop-up tent campers, park model trailers, destination trailers, commercial vehicles, buses and pontoons.
The project will generate a total capital investment of more than $7 million, according to the MEDC.
Michigan was chosen over competing sites in Indiana. The village of White Pigeon is offering support to the project in the form of a 12-year, 50 percent property tax abatement.
