Bryan Kenneth Happel, age 41, of Caledonia, and formerly of Mendon, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015 at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on July 17, 1973 the son of Bernard C. and Catherine M. (Jones-Reed) Happel. He graduated from Mendon High School in 1991 where he played all sports , was a state champion pole vaulter, and member of the National Honor Society. He later graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters in Business Administration. While at Ann Arbor he was a member of the SAE Fraternity and a member of the 1984 Big Ten Champion Track Team. Bryan worked at ITW Draw Form in Zeeland and currently at Metal Flow in Holland. Bryan was a volunteer youth football and soccer coach. He enjoyed all outdoor activities including hunting and fly-fishing, and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He loved family traditions, especially entertaining and cooking at his Thornapple River home.
Bryan is survived by two sons, Wade and Grant Happel and their mother, Lynn (Harrison) Happel; his parents, Cathy (Steve) Reed of Kalamazoo and Bernie (Kim Goidosik) Happel of Mattawan; his brother and best friend, Craig (Lindy) Happel of Kalamazoo and their children Cohen and Landen Happel; step sisters, Sarah Reed of Huston, TX and Sally Reed of Baltimore, MD; many cousins and relatives throughout the area; fraternal brothers, neighbors, and co-workers.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. The funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 17, 2015 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Rev. Jim Vinh Le officiating. Burial will be in St. Edward Cemetery.
