Glen Oaks agrees to privatize bookstore

Glen Oaks Community College’s Board of Trustees has agreed to a contract with Follett Higher Education Group Inc. to privatize bookstore services.
James O’Connor, vice president of sales and operations, said Follett operates 945 campus stores internationally, has 1,500 e-commerce sites and plans to invest more than $ 250 million in the business over the next 36 months.
Follett offers new, used, rental and digital course materials. It also offers a book buy- back program and a Faculty Discover program under which faculty can research, discover and adopt course materials.
O’Connor said Follett plans to re-merchandise and refresh the store. A contract between Follett and GOCC states that Follett shall spend up to $62,000 to improve the store. Glen Oaks will be responsible for any costs above that amount.
