Jack Oberle, 85

OberleJack Ellis Oberle, age 85, of Columbus, OH (formerly of Constantine), passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 at University Hospital, Cleveland, OH. He was born in Three Rivers  on March 20, 1929, a son of Oswald  and Margaret (Ellis) Oberle. Jack married Shirlie Mae Miller, she preceded him in death  on Dec. 29, 2012 after 60 years of marriage. Jack graduated from Constantine High School in 1947, and went on to earn his Bachelors Degree in Engineering from Michigan State University. He later obtained his Masters Degree from University of Pittsburgh.  Jack worked as a Research and Chemical Engineer for several companies including Sherex Company Dublin, OH., retiring in 1998.  He had previously worked for Ashland Chemical Co in Dublin and also Battelle in Columbus. Jack served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War.

He was a sports fan of the Chicago White Sox, MSU and Ohio State. He enjoyed playing cards, country music, belonged to dance clubs and also a bowling league.

Surviving are his daughters, Lisa (Bruce) Matthies, of Mentor, OH; Janet (Keith) Stichtenoth, of Cincinatti, OH; son Douglas Oberle, of Mentor, OH; grandchildren, Bridget Matthies, Jamie (Brian) Snyder, Benjamin (Chassity) VanderHorst, Kelly Matthies, Julia (Todd) Merett, and Allison VanderHorst; great-grandchildren, Keegan Toth, Logan Snyder, Breanna Raborn, Joshua Raborn;  nieces and nephews, Candace Spurlock, David McNeal, Randall McNeal, Vienna Bowling, & Bruce Kittle. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and step-father H. Donald Harvey.

Relatives and friends will be received Saturday from 1-2 PM at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where services will follow at 2:00 PM. Reverend Dennis Smith of Messiah Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be at Poes Cemetery in Jones. Online messages may be left for the family at www.eleyfuneralhomes.com.
