Leon Hackenberg, 92

Leon W. Hackenberg, 92, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully to be with his wife on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 at his home. He was born on July 9, 1922 in Marcellus, the son of the late August and Clara (Timm) Hackenberg.

Leon proudly served his country during World War II. Upon his discharge he began work at the Continental Can Co. until moving to Fisher Body/General Motors where he eventually retired. Leon owned and operated Hackenberg Trucking Co. and several other businesses while still working. Leon loved to farm and upon his retirement he kept farming well into his years.

Mr. Hackenberg was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Kathryn, who passed Jan. 27, 2015; son, David Hackenberg; two brothers, Owren and Donald; and three sisters, June Parker, Eleanor Blasius and Verna Rudd.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, two sons, Leon “Gordie” Hackenberg of Marcellus and Dan (Beth) Hackenberg of Bald Knob, Ark.; four very special grandchildren, Joyce Hackenberg, Dustin and David Hackenberg, and Dana Burns; four great-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. at the Hohner Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 24 with graveside services following at the Prairie River Cemetery, Centreville.
