Program helps students find their way to college

Details about the St. Joseph County College Access Network were provided recently during a meeting of the St. Joseph County School Board Association.
Tracy Harker and Claudia Pahls reported that the College Access Network, which stems from Sturgis Public Schools’ SUCCESS program and strives to help students find their way to college, is now a countywide program thanks to the St. Joseph County Commission’s financial support last summer.
Harker and Pahls said of the 658 high school seniors in the county, 489 have applied for college and 381 have been accepted.
Programs staged by CAN include a senior information night, college application week, financial aid night, college bowl Sundays, college visits, decision day and one-on-one college counseling.
CAN has offices in every district in the county. Details about the organization can be found online at: sjccan.org.
