Sturgis revises daily schedule

With nine snow days already in the books – three more than the state allows – Sturgis Public Schools will introduce a revised daily schedule that goes into effect next week.
Every building in the district will add 20 minutes daily as a way of not extending the school year. Superintendent Tom Langdon said Michigan public schools are granted six grace days.
Langdon said adding 20 minutes to each day will create a 1 1/2-day cushion to allow for more snow days, if needed.
Twenty minutes will be added to the end of the day at the high school and middle school, making their dismissals 2:50 and 3:05, respectively.
At Eastwood Elementary, 10 minutes are being added at the beginning and end of the school day, making its start time 8:45 and dismissal 4:12.
At all K-2 schools, 10 minutes are being added to the start and end of school, as well, making their school hours 8:30 to 3:57 p.m.
