Interviews continue for clerk position

Moving forward at a pace quicker than expected, a panel assembled to interview finalists for the appointed position of clerk and register of deeds will interview two finalists this week.
St. Joseph County Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman said Tabitha Wedge and Lindsay Oswald will return for second interviews Tuesday after they were a slate of five interviewed last week.
Wedge, a 28-year county employee, is the administrator of St. Joseph County District Court. Oswald was hired in 2013 to serve as the county’s grant writer. She is the former clerk of the city of Three Rivers.
They are vying to serve an 18-month position as appointed clerk and register of deeds to replace Pattie Bender, who is retiring June 30.
A county employee since 1970 and clerk since 1991, Bender will have served 2 1/2 years of a four-year term when she retires.
Stutesman is expected to be joined Tuesday by a panel of four additional people – Bender, human resources director Teresa Doehring, probate/circuit court administrator Kathy Griffin and probate court judge David Tomlinson – for the interview process.
