Mary Lou Griffin, age 72, of Colon, and formerly of Mendon, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at her home. She was born in Cadillac, MI on Aug. 17, 1942 the daughter of the late Joseph and Louella (Luhrs) Skelton. She was a 1961 graduate of Vicksburg High School and later attended Glen Oaks Community College. Mary was an upholsterer, working from her home restoring furniture. She also worked at the Colmer Division of Maxitrol in Colon for over 20 years until her retirement. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting hummingbirds. She crocheted many items for family, and for donation to local hospitals, nurseries, and nursing homes. She especially loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by three children, Paul (Rhonda) Griffin of Breedsville, Steve (Sarah) Griffin of Otsego, and Amy (Paul) Carroll of Hamilton; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Sherry VanBrocklin of Holland; sister, Sandy (Stan) Janulewicz of Vicksburg; two brothers, Rick (Peg) Skelton of Vicksburg and Joe (Donna) Skelton of Fulton; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday March 27, 2015 at the West Mendon United Methodist Church, 22994 Portage Lake Rd., Mendon, MI 49072. Funeral services will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the church with Pastor Thoreau May officiating. Cremation will follow services with a private interment at a later date.
