A seven-year member of the Sturgis City Commission resigned Monday.
Michael Gay said personal reasons and concerns associated with the city commission were primary factors in his unexpected decision.
After the meeting, Gay said he has disagreed with procedural issues, such as action motions prepared in advance that presume the commission will support administrative recommendations.
Gay, 61, also was critical of some commissioners he claimed have failed to take first-hand looks at issues they decide.
The commission is seeking letters of intent from people interested in filling the remainder of Gay’s unexpired term. The deadline for submitting resumes to the city clerk’s office is 4 p.m. April 16.
Because Gay was an at-large commissioner, his successor can be a registered voter who lives anywhere in the city.
