Three Rivers longtime volunteer dies

Longtime local volunteer, George Cole, died Monday evening at Three Rivers Health, following a brief illness.

Cole, age 88, served the community in a variety of activities, including a 17 year term as secretary of UAW Local 1253 and a 68 year membership in Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3019. He also served as an active participant in local American Red Cross blood drives for over 60 years, as well as serving two terms on the Three Rivers Cemetery-Park Board. Cole was a 30 year member of the Three Rivers Lions Club, in which he held every major office.  His service in the Lions Club also extended to the district, which he served as District Governor in 1988 to 1989, and the state level, where he was active with the Michigan Eye Bank. He was honored for his community service as the Three Rivers Citizen of the Year in 2011.
