Two people arrested following crash

State police investigators have provided additional details regarding the arrest of a Three Rivers couple last week on a variety of charges following a traffic accident in Centreville.

Cass county authorities said they arrested a 48-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman on charges related to the possession of methamphetamine, marijuana stolen property and two warrants.

The couple was involved in a collision at the Centreville McDonald’s, where the driver fled the scene. Witnesses said the truck was seen heading north at a high rate of speed on Covered Bridge Road. A vehicle it was towing fell off its trailer and landed in a nearby front yard.

Investigators subsequently learned of a possible location where they might find the suspects. At 4 p.m. Friday, Cass County officials responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Bald Hill Street in Newburg Township.

The suspects were at the residence and the man admitted to driving the truck involved in the accident at McDonald’s. Meanwhile, officers discovered two stolen trucks on the property and it was found he was wanted on two outstanding warrants.

Child Protective Services was called to place children who were in the home, where meth and marijuana were discovered. The couple was taken to the Cass County Jail in Cassopolis.

Charges from St. Joseph County are being reviewed.
