Walter Tokarski, 94

Walter M. Tokarski, age 94, of Three Rivers,  died Friday, March 6, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born in Wilson, MI on June 10, 1920 the son of John and Barbara (Pierhal) Tokarski. The family moved to Three Rivers in 1926, and Walter attended Three Rivers schools. He served in the U.S. Army with the 96th Infantry Division during World War II. Walter was married to Kyra J. Cole on Oct. 9, 1948 in Three Rivers. She died Nov. 10, 1988.

Walter first worked for the Huette Shoe Company. He then worked for 33 years at the Peterson Corporation in Three Rivers as a tool & die maker, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion. He enjoyed working outdoors and woodworking.

Walter is survived by a son, Dennis Tokarski of Ann Arbor, MI; a brother, Leon (Barbara) Tokarski of Three Rivers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, John, Joseph, Stanley, and Raymond Tokarski; and by a sister, Victoria Lepianka.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A private interment will take place later in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
