Wanda Schlatter Zonyk, age 96, of Lake Templene, Sturgis, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015. She was born Feb. 18, 1919 in South Bend, IN a daughter of the late Alex and Angela (Karwacka) Grombik. She had resided in Bronson, MI most of her life where she was active in community affairs, held offices in Summer Youth Recreation Program, Local Welfare-Relief Org., American Business Woman’s Assoc, Bronson Womem’s Club, Women’s League, St Mary’s Rosary Society. She married Glen Schlatter Oct. 26, 1940. He preceded her in death May 9, 1968. An infant son, Gene Michael Schlatter also preceded her in 1944. She married Joseph Zonyk of Vicksburg Jan. 19, 1974. He preceded her in death March 2, 2010. They resided at Lake Templene since 1977, where she was a volunteer in Sturgis Hospice, Red Cross Bloodmobile, Meals-On-Wheels and St. Clare’s Women’s Guild. Mrs. Zonyk was a graduate of Delmar Beauty School in Detroit. She was a gifted seamstress, enjoyed many crafts and her flower gardens. Her Polish heritage and her fluency in the Polish language were a source of great pride to her.
She is survived by her stepchildren Daniel (Caryn) Zonyk, Vicksburg, Susan (Ron) Reardon, Stanwood, MI, grandchildren Josh and Jeff Reardon, Michael, Angela and Michelle Zonyk, 6 great grandchildren, several cousins in Poland, cousin and caregiver Rose Ann Makowski and Mark Makowski of Augusta.
Graveside services will be held 1 pm Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bronson with Fr Richard Fritz, Pastor, St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Bronson officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Clare’s Catholic Church, Centreville. Arrangements are being handled by the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville.
