William Kermit Sampson, age 89, of Colon, passed away, Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
William was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Woodburn, Ky., a son of the late Hershal and Ova P. (Creek) Sampson.
William served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On June 26, 1948, he married Dorothy L. Eldridge in Kentucky, and she preceded him in death. On Jan. 15, 2000, he married Doris E. Decker in Colon. She also preceded him in death.
He moved to Michigan in 1962 and lived in Burr Oak and later in Colon, where he was a member of Colon Church of Christ.
He had retired from the U.S. Postal service.
William enjoyed vegetable gardening, playing cards and especially enjoyed time spent with his family.
He is survived by a daughter, Teresa (Tee) (Mark) Schantz of Tampa, Fla.; a son, Jeff (Terri) Sampson of Sturgis; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Linda (Jerry) Albright and Shirley (Christopher) Smith, both of Colon; a stepson-in-law, Monty Skinner of Leonidas; and several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Delsa Abney and ElsaMorris; four brothers, Wendall, Gleason, Carroll and Bobby Sampson; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Skinner and stepson-in-law, DavidWest; and three step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of William Kermit Sampson will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dave Porter officiating.
If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of William to Colon Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in Chapel HillMemorial Gardens in Bowling Green, Ky.
