A lifelong educator vastly familiar with Colon Community Schools will finish the academic year as its superintendent.
Following a 25-minute special board meeting Friday, members of Colon Community Schools’ Board of Education agreed to offer Jay Newman a contract to serve as the district’s chief through June 30.
The decision was made in light of first-year superintendent Vic Bugni announcing April 24 his resignation effective Friday this week.
Newman served the 2013-14 academic year as the district’s interim superintendent. He was paid $5,000 a month – a figure he will continue to be paid for the month of June and on a prorated basis for May starting May 11.
Board president Eric Wagner said he had occasion this week to talk to Newman, and was told Newman was OK with coming aboard through June.
Wagner after the meeting said the process to find a permanent superintendent won’t begin until after Newman steps aboard.
