Kalamazoo-area man, 75, charged in ex-wife’s shotgun slaying

A 75-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his ex-wife at their western Michigan home.

Jimmy L. Thrasher was arraigned Tuesday in Kalamazoo District Court on murder and firearms charges. Judge Tiffany A. Ankley ordered him jailed without bond until a probable cause hearing May 26.

The judge also granted his request for a court-appointed lawyer.

Authorities say Thrasher killed 74-year-old Grace Thrasher with a shotgun about 1:30 a.m. Monday at their Texas Township home.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports that Kalamazoo County sheriff’s detective William Sparrow says Jimmy Thrasher was “highly intoxicated” and told him the gun went off by accident.

Christopher Thrasher says his divorced about 20 years ago and lived together for convenience.  (AP)
