J. Catherine “Kate” Smith, 88, formerly of Three Rivers, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in Melbourne, Fla.
Kate was born on July 20, 1926 in Ludington. After high school she attended Mercy School of Nursing in Muskegon. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo and for Drs. Raymond and Charles Zimont in Constantine.
She married her husband, Robert Smith, in 1948. After retirement, they spent several winters in Florida, later moving to Melbourne, Fla.
Kate enjoyed listening to music, spending afternoons at the pool, visiting friends and family, and playing bridge.
Kate is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Thomas Olencki of Upper Arlington, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Paul Fardelmann of Melbourne, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Zachary and Luke Fardelmann, and Emily and Thomas Olencki. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smith; her parents, Carl and Jane Carlson; and her brothers, Carl and Robert Carlson.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
