Mahlon Scofield, 80

Mahlon J. Scofield, age 80, of Colon, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015, at his home after an extended illness.

Mahlon was born July 28, 1934, in Vicksburg, a son to the late John and Edith (Brockway) Scofield.

His early years were spent in Vicksburg, where he graduated from Vicksburg High School and later furthered his education at Glen Oaks Community College.

Mahlon served 13 years in the U.S. Air Force.

On June 27, 1969, he married Darlene (Rinehart) Gordon in Colon.

He had worked for Grand Trunk Railroad in Battle Creek, retiring in 1996 after 30 years of service. He later worked as a crossing guard for Colon Community Schools.

He was a member of Colon American Legion Post #454 and Grand Trunk Railroad Union.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Scofield of Colon; children Pam (Kevin) Johnson of Three Rivers, Todd (Amy) Gordon of Colon, Sharon (Randy) Craun of Colon, Rebekah Scofield of Colon and Alivya (Craun) Scofield of Colon; 12 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, G. Merton Scofield; and two sisters, Marian Davenport andMable Sell.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.

Funeral services celebrating the life ofMahlon J. Scofield will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015, at the funeral home, withMr. David J. Farrell officiating. Cremation will follow with private burial of ashes in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.

If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Mahlon to Bronson Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
