Sturgis company considered for USPS contract

Morgan Olson LLC of Sturgis is being considered for a major contract with the U.S. Postal Service.
The agency is planning a mail truck upgrade, calling it the “Next Generation Delivery Vehicle.”
Recently, Morgan Olson submitted a proposal for the government contract and is now among 15 suppliers being considered for manufacturing the new mail vehicles.
In 2017, the postal service plans to award the contract, for up to 180,000 vehicles, to one supplier. With an anticipated price of $25,000 to $35,000 per vehicle, the value of the impending contract could potentially exceed $6 billion, said Larry Palmer, senior director of strategic accounts at Morgan Olson.
If awarded, it would not be the first time the company obtained a postal service contract. In 1987, then-Grumman Olson designed and developed the postal services’ long-life vehicle in the largest non-military vehicle contract in U.S. history.
