St. Joseph County’s newest recreation-related attraction is open for business, as the dog park at Meyer Broadway Park in Fabius Township was dedicated Friday.
The fenced-in, five-acre property is divided into a four-acre area for larger dogs and one acre for smaller dogs. Parks and recreation director Jaymes MacDonald said pet owners will have to use their best judgment but dogs weighing 25 pounds or more are generally considered large dogs.
Plastic bags and a refuse container are on site, as participants are urged to clean up after their dog. MacDonald said the quality of the park will be determined by how responsible people are.
There is no additional cost to patronize the dog park. There is, however, a $4 daily admission to Meyer-Broadway Park. Season passes, good for any of the county’s parks in 2015, are available for $20.
