Dorothy Shoemaker, 86

Dorothy Ann (Smith) Shoemaker, 86, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2015, with her children surrounding her at bedside. Dorothy was the daughter of Harm and Katherine (Koets) Smith, who both preceded her in death. She was born on Feb. 9, 1929 in Kalamazoo. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1947. On May 31, 1952 Dorothy married the love of her life, Roger Alan Shoemaker, who preceded her in death in 2009. Together their life flourished as they raised their family in Schoolcraft, until moving to Escanaba in March of 1977. They spent many happy years making new friends in Escanaba before returning downstate to Three Rivers.

Dorothy was a wonderful and loving Mother and homemaker, while still finding time to work various jobs outside of the home. Eventually she found her niche in oil painting and has many beautiful pictures now hanging on the walls of family and many good friends.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, LouAnne (Louis) Sanchez, Linda Benthin and Holly (Doug) Norton. Dorothy was also blessed with seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary and Kathy, and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Newberg located at 13021 Born St., Jones. Pastor Mike Owen will officiate. Any fond memories you may have are welcome and can be shared at this time. Luncheon immediately following service in the Church sanctuary.
