State police arrested a 28-year-old Constantine man early Sunday on charges that include a weapons-related offense.
Troopers were called at 1:20 a.m. to the 11000 block of Millers Mill Road in response to an intoxicated subject threatening to shoot people.
The incident started after the suspect had a dispute with his neighbor, authorities said. The suspect retrieved a loaded shotgun and waived it in the air before witnesses managed to relieve him of the weapon.
Unbeknownst to witnesses and the man’s wife, he had armed himself with a .45-caliber revolver and subsequently locked himself inside his residence with his three children, all under 12 years of age. Troopers eventually made entry into the building and the suspect’s wife escorted the children from the residence, according to authorities.
Troopers arrested the man while at gunpoint. Ultimately, no shots were fired by the suspect or police.
The suspect has been charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, assault and battery, and disorderly conduct.
