Three school board members subject to a recall have through Monday next week to appeal a decision Friday that will allow the process to continue.
Three Rivers Board of Education members Waneta Truckey, Carl Barth and board president Mike Bosma did not indicate after Friday’s clarity/factual hearing what course of action they plan to follow.
The three-member St. Joseph County Election Commission concurred that the language of the three petitions showed sufficient clarity in stating the reasons for the recall. As a result, it saw no reason to reject the petitions.
The 10-day appeal period started Friday and if pursued, will be made to St. Joseph County Circuit Court. Once filed, circuit court has 40 days to act on the matter.
St. Joseph County Clerk Pattie Bender said if the language is cleared and the recall petitions are ultimately OK’d to begin circulating, the effort will require the signatures of at least 1,165 people who are registered voters within the school district’s boundaries.
