Betty Irene Shingledecker, age 79, of Three Rivers, formerly of Marcellus, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI., on May 28, 1936 the daughter of the late Ross and Zola (Kellogg) Morrison.
Betty graduated from Delton-Kellogg High School in 1954. In 1971 she was united in marriage to the late Richard Shingledecker who passed on March 17th, 2014. Betty and Dick enjoyed raising their family on their farms in Marcellus and Three Rivers. Betty also worked for Three Rivers Hospital and Three Rivers Schools for several years.
Betty loved to host for family and friends. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and loved to write and read poetry. She also loved to perform with the Three Rivers Community Players. All who knew her will miss Betty’s smile and her unmistakable giggle.
Betty was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, Julia and Thomas Ford; husband Richard; siblings, Carl, Joseph, William, Robert, Paul Morrison, and one sister, Pearl.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, five children, Janet Kendall, of Marcellus, MI., John (Nicole) Medsker, of Kalamazoo, MI., James (Shelley) Medsker, of Lawton, MI., Susan (Michael) Grear, of Lawton, MI, and Randy (Drew Knecht) Shingledecker, of Chicago, IL. Two sisters, Florence “Liz” Comstock and Ila Hall, both of Kalamazoo. Fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the time of memorial services at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8th, 2015 at the Hohner Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Gunderson of New Hope Fellowship Church officiating where Betty attended. Family requests everyone wear pink if possible, Betty’s favorite color.
