St. Joseph County’s Intermediate School District Board last week approved the 2015-16 operating calendar that officials said is in close alignment with the countywide shared-services calendar.
Due to a late Labor Day date of Sept. 7, Michigan public schools will not open until Sept. 8, pushing back the end of the school year to June 9, 2016. ISD will not release students for the traditional Kids’ Day during the St. Joseph County Grange Fair Week in September this year and there will be no holiday break for the January 2016 Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Mid-winter break has been cut to one day, Feb. 15. But that could be withdrawn, too, if inclement weather forces the cancelation of a number of school days.
If necessary, the end of the school year could be extended to Tuesday, June 14 if three additional weather cancelations must be made up.
Winter recess is slated for Dec. 21-Jan. 4 and spring break will be April 4-8.
