The 2015 tax rates for Sturgis city property owners will remain unchanged from a year ago.
The Sturgis City Commission recently set the general-operating tax rate at 10.0285 mills and continued a 3-mill levy approved by city voters in 2014 for street and sidewalk improvements.
According to Ken Rhodes, city clerk/treasurer, the operating tax rate – about $10.03 for each $1,000 of taxable property value – continues to be the lowest in more than 40 years.
The 3-mill street/sidewalk tax adds another $3 of property taxes for each $1,000 of taxable property value. For the owner of a property with a market value of $100,000 and a taxable value of $50,000, the bill for 2015 property taxes will be $651.
