Three Rivers Police K-9 passed away

Three Rivers police K-9 Hondo passed away last month at Michigan State University following a battle with cancer.
Hondo had worked for the department the past five years. Officer Matt Stark, Hondo’s handler, said his companion was a happy and loyal dog.
In his five years on the force, Hondo was able to help police locate several fugitives in and around Three Rivers.
One case Stark recalled was a suspected drug dealer who had continued to elude police. During a traffic stop of the suspect, Hondo alerted to drugs inside of the vehicle.
He also filled a supporting role for officers in major incidents and disturbances promoting officers’ safety and suspect cooperation.
Most recently, Hondo tracked and apprehended two men who had burglarized a local continence store. Police were able to return more than $1,000 in stolen property to the owner.
