A trio of Three Rivers Board of Education members subject to a recall has filed an appeal to St. Joseph County Circuit Court regarding the result of a clarity/factual hearing last month.
The three – Waneta Truckey, Carl Barth and board president Mike Bosma – filed the appeal around noon Monday, the final day of a 10-day window they had from the date of the St. Joseph County Election Commission concurring that the language of the three petitions showed sufficient clarity in stating the reasons for the recall. As a result, it saw no reason to reject the petitions.
Circuit court judge Paul Stutesman now has 40 days to either uphold or overturn the decision of the election commission.
If Stutesman upholds the decision, recall petitions can begin to be circulated. Each recall petition will require the signatures of at least 1,165 people who are registered voters within the school district’s boundaries.
