Woman arrested after wrecking stolen vehicle

An 18-year-old Burr Oak woman was taken to the county jail after she stole and wrecked a relative’s vehicle last week in Burr Oak Township.
According to state police, the incident started when a report of a stolen car was filed July 14 from the 31000 block of Kelly Road. The owner of the 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo told authorities that the vehicle was stolen in the night by his cousin.
Investigators found that the vehicle had been driven in a reckless manner and was crashed in the area of Halfway Road and Fawn River Road in Fawn River Township.
The victim’s 18-year-old cousin was not licensed to drive and did not have permission to use the vehicle. She was charged with auto theft, hit and run, reckless driving and no driver’s license. She was on probation at the time from a previous incident of malicious destruction to property.
Investigators said alcohol and marijuana are believed to have been factors that contributed to the crash.
