Glen Oaks Community College will be offering two Nurse Aide Training programs beginning this fall.
“There are numerous positions available in the county for certified nurse aides,” said Dr. David Devier, Glen Oaks president. “We are trying to help meet the need by offering this course on days and times that include weekends to try to help students better fit it into their schedules.”
The six-credit hour Nurse Aide course provides students with the necessary skills to prepare them for the state certification exam and to work as a nurse aide in work settings such as nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living and long-term care facilities. The course is taught by registered nurses with many years of experience.
Nurse aides perform a wide range of tasks. They work directly with the patient, giving physical and emotional care and support. The help transfer and transport patients, utilizing proper body mechanics and lift assist equipment, take and record vital signs, and collect specimens for labs.
