Ford Motor Co. has let loose of the latest souped-up, high-performance Mustang.
The 2015 Shelby GT350R drove off the line Thursday at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant, southwest of Detroit. Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford, who drove the car, said in a statement that it’s “a special day for all Mustang enthusiasts.”
Ford says the vehicle rolling off the line was auctioned for $1 million. Proceeds go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The 526-horsepower Mustang is the latest born of the Dearborn automaker’s partnership with the late racing legend Carroll Shelby. He was working on the 50th anniversary edition of the Mustang when he died in 2012 at the age of 89. (AP)
