Information gathering for possible library move

A period of information gathering will begin soon, as the city of Three Rivers and the Three Rivers Public Library consider a feasibility study regarding a new location for the library.
Library officials during their monthly board meeting Tuesday said the former Whitehouse Manufacturing building, at the southwest corner of Main Street and Michigan Avenue, is being considered.
A plan shown during the meeting features library space in the lower two levels and apartment units in the upper level.
Mayor Tom Lowry said the idea is based in part on the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging taking over the entire space of the building it currently shares with the library. In the process, the city would be able to update and make sound use of a building in the vicinity of the intersection that features the highest volume of traffic in Three Rivers.
Lowry said the city has the potential to incur state and federal grants to put toward the project.
