Joyce Schrader, age 89, formerly of Mendon, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015 at Thurston Woods in Sturgis. She was born near Leonidas on Sep. 11, 1925 the daughter of Walter W. and Josephine (Bucknell) Barnes and graduated from Colon High School in 1944. Joyce was married to Archie Hawver on Aug. 19, 1944 in Coldwater and they were later divorced. She later married Tom Stevens and that marriage ended in divorce. Joyce married Dewayne Schrader on Feb. 24, 1973 in Mendon. Dewayne died in 1991.
Joyce had worked as a waitress, drove a taxi and worked at Trans-O-Gram in Sturgis in her younger days. She later provided in home adult care and retired from the Kirsch Company after 32 years of employment. She was a former member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed hunting and fishing, snowmobile trips, and gardening.
Joyce is survived by six children, Susan Grimes of Sturgis, Keith (Ann) Hawver of Lake Wales, FL, Sally Case of Colon, Don (Jan) Hawver of Cheboygan, Cindy (Richard) Coohon of White Pigeon, and Danny (Miriam) Stevens of Three Rivers; two step-children, Nancy Overton of Mendon and Beverly DeVogel of Arizona; thirty two grandchildren; forty eight great-grandchildren; and eighteen great-great-grandchildren and two more on the way; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Stevens; step-son, Tom Schrader; step-grandson, Brock Schrader; and by four brothers, James, Donald, Ralph, and Floyd.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel, 305 Rock River Ave., Three Rivers, 49093. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Miller of the Moorepark Community Church officiating.
