A longtime retailer in Sturgis will be closing later this year.
Kmart, located on South Centerville Road, will shut its doors in mid-November, said Howard Riefs, director of corporate communications for Sears Holdings.
A liquidation sale is expected to begin Aug. 30.
Store closures are part of a series of actions being taken to reduce on-going expenses, adjust the company’s asset base and accelerate the transformation of its business model, Riefs said.
The store has 59 employees; most are part time and hourly. Workers who are eligible will receive severance.
Customers with layaway contracts at the store have options to pay off a contract early or transfer a layaway contract to a neighboring store or on-line.
