The Three Rivers Area Foundation has joined forces with the Three Rivers Police Department to replace a K-9 officer.
In June, Three Rivers lost its K-9, Hondo, to cancer. Hondo had been on duty for five years.
Matt Stark, who was Hondo’s partner, said the foundation contacted the department about joining with the police department to gain funds to replace the dog.
The goal is $12,000. Stark said the plan is to have the new K-9 purchased and trained by the end of the summer. Stark will be the dog’s handler.
The city of Three Rivers has one other K- 9 team, Tom Hicks and Jake.
More information on donating can be found on the Facebook page: Three Rivers Police Department K- 9 Unit.
